WASHINGTON (TND) — Shifty Shellshock, the frontman of the rap rock band Crazy Town has died at 49.
Shellshock, whose real name is Seth Binzer died at his home on Monday, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
A cause of death has not yet been confirmed but the singer was known to have battled addiction for years.
Crazy Town was formed in 1995 by Shellshock and Bret "Epic" Mazur, according to Variety. DJ Rick One, Mark White, Adam Bravin, Charles Lopez and others eventually joined the group.
The 2000 single "Butterfly" rocketed the group to No. 1 on the US "Billboard" Hot 100 for two nonconsecutive weeks.
Shellshock pursued a solo career in 2002 when the group's second album failed to do as well. The hit "Starry Eyed Surprise" with Paul Oakenfold peaked at No. 41.
The singer appeared on several reality shows about addiction including VH1's "Celebrity Rehab" and the follow-up show "Sober House."
Variety noted Shellshock was admitted to the hospital in 2012 after losing consciousness and fell into a coma before recovering.
He is survived by his three children: Halo, Gage and Phoenix.
