Boise, ID (CBS2) — The Idaho State Board of Education has set a minimum number of instructional days for Idaho's K-12 public schools.
The Idaho State Board of Education says that over half of Idaho's Local Education Agencies (LEAs) are holding four-day school weeks.
House Bills 521 and 766 which were approved and signed into law during the 2024 legislative session require LEAs to meet a minimum number of instructional days for students that the State Board of Education has set at 152 days per year to be eligible for school facilities funding that is provided by the state.
Superintendent of Public Instruction Debbie Critchfield says the recommendation is based on findings that Idaho public schools that are operating on four days per week are currently averaging 146 student instructional days a year, compared to schools that are operating at five days per week that are averaging 172 instructional days a year.
Schools will have until July 1, 2025, to meet the 152 instructional day requirement for the 2025/26 school year.
