Chris Evert agreed with Iga Swiatek when the latter asked for more rest amidst a grueling tennis schedule. Evert, after listening to Swiatek’s concerns, felt that the scheduling of matches is quite an important topic for discussion, as many players feel playing tennis has become exhausting.
Swiatek’s remarks, however, triggered criticism from some fans who feel the 23-year-old has become one of those players complaining about the schedule. A user on X took a slight dig at Swiatek while replying to Evert’s tweet supporting the Pole.
The user feels the scheduling of the tournaments has not changed since his 80s, but today’s tennis players keep on whining. Evert tried to explain to him how playing in the 80s was different from today’s matches.
What people don't understand is there is SO much more depth than the 80's! I played then!! The players now have to bring their "A" game in the first round; we didn't!Chris Evert wrote on X

I certainly can understand @iga_swiatek concern about playing too many tournaments, especially when you go deep in tournaments every week. Adding in the @Olympics and much more depth in the game, it’s an important topic…. https://t.co/vdPnmy2tbq

— Chris Evert (@ChrissieEvert) August 18, 2024Here’s what Iga Swiatek said about the tennis schedule
Iga Swiatek made the comments on tennis scheduling during the Cincinnati Open. After difficulties when she reached the quarterfinals and beat Mirra Andreeva in three sets, Swiatek, who has been continuously playing quality tennis without proper rest expressed what’s on her mind.
Especially when you're playing at the high level and, you know, going to high-ranking tournaments. We deserve to rest a little bit more obviously maybe. People are going to hate me for that because it sounded weird that I'm asking for rest. It doesn't make sense, but the truth is that you have got to keep up with the Tour.Iga Swiatek told Sky Sports after the match
Swiatek, after her Miami Open exit in March, continuously played tournaments one after the other and bagged three titles at the Madrid Open, Rome Open, and the French Open. After the grueling matches on clay, Swiatek decided to rest and recover and skipped the grass-court matches before Wimbledon.
Then, after a third-round exit from Wimbledon, Swiatek played in the Olympics and was the heavy favorite, but she failed to play to her full potential in the semifinals, after which, she took home the bronze medal. She skipped the Canadian Open and decided to play at the Cincinnati Open to get some much-needed practice on hard court ahead of the US Open.
